From the soft vinyl figure series “Yuji Sakai Modeling Collection,” created and produced by Yuji Sakai, Godzilla (2001) makes a return—based on the 2001 film Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. In this film, Godzilla’s white eyes and menacing appearance shocked fans, setting this version apart from previous incarnations. Yuji Sakai has faithfully recreated this Godzilla in a pose that evokes the original 1954 Godzilla.
The pose is based on a still photograph that Sakai particularly liked and had long wanted to sculpt. The figure’s brownish coloring is based on the actual suit used in the film, and this piece is a passionately crafted work brought into soft vinyl form. The original sculpt was converted from cast to wax to create a master mold.
All production pieces are formed using this single master mold to minimize wear from soft vinyl molding and to preserve intricate details as much as possible. The paintwork was supervised by Sakai himself and reproduced using techniques optimized for soft vinyl.
